1. Why this, why now
I view art, music, literature, and Instagram as food for the mind—nourishing curiosity, imagination, and wonder. But travel is a full immersion experience, where the body and senses can absorb centuries of Mother Earth’s gifts. This blog is meant to inspire readers to travel to a different location and experience how laughter and sunlight may be the same, or vastly different.
2. Community I am looking to build here
Each blog entry will start with “A 48 Hour Holiday in…(location)”. Based on one of my favorite New York Times columns titled, “36 hours in…” I adjusted the scope of the blog to reference either 48 continuous hours or 3 consecutive 14 hours of awake time in a location. As a reader along for the ride in this blog journey, we discover places that may be familiar, but with a twist. Places where being “off-grid” mean turning off our devices and finding local food, scenery and conversation to fill the 48 hours.
3. What to expect
Every month or so, I will post a new "A 48 Hour Holiday in…”. The first locations selected will be ocean and river cruise ports; many of you are here because you know of my work as a travel advisor. I thank each of you for spending this time with me and hope that we will adventure together now and into the future.
